Hello, my name is Kelsey Gullick. I grew up in Pleasanton, CA with 3 older brothers and loving parents. Life with big brothers taught me all of life’s lessons. My parents have always been my best friends and supported my wildest dreams. After traveling for many years, settling down in Chico was always meant to be. Then, Paul and I met when I was a substitute teacher and he had just decided to enter the credential program. Almost 6 years later, we have accomplished a lot together. We were able to buy a home, are both settled in our careers as teachers and look forward to our future together.

Becoming a teacher later in life allowed me to gain many life experiences that helped prepare me for this wild journey. A BA in Child Development from Chico State led me to work around the world with kids on military bases. I cared for babies as young as 4 weeks old, built relationships with their families and got to experience life outside my own bubble. All of those experiences, in addition to many others, are exactly what brings me here today. I was welcomed to Citrus Elementary School as a 2nd grade teacher 6 years ago and I never knew then how lucky I was. The strong, tight knit community of families and amazing staff that make up Citrus is what makes my job so special.

This school year I want to welcome and encourage more of our diverse populations to get involved with our school community and events. With roughly 20% of our school being English Language Learners, our population has so many cultures which bring a rich diversity of languages and lifestyles to our community. There is so much that so many people have to offer and we all want to learn from one another! I want to make sure everyone feels welcomed and comfortable to share their values, beliefs, culture and deepest parts of what makes them unique. I would love to see more district wide translators in all schools so every person has the opportunity to communicate and feel welcomed to come as they are. I look forward to gaining more knowledge and experiencing all of the cultures that represent Citrus. As always, it’s a great day at Citrus!!
