I am Shelly Bettencourt (AKA: Mrs. B.) I have been blessed to have served hundreds of students in the past 20+ years as a Kindergarten teacher. My other equally important role is that of a mother to my 1/2 dozen children. My husband John is also an educational leader her in Butte County. We have raised our 3 grown sons and are still in the pre-teen phase

raising our 11 year old triplet daughters. Life is full and our family continues to grow. We will welcome our precious granddaughter into this world in November.

“A teacher is the twinkle in the eyes of the future.” As a teacher, I am called to serve the students under my care. My goal is for every student to have a fun, positive school experience where he / she feels safe and becomes confident in developing their abilities, building relationships, and in becoming a unique individual.

While offering a strong academic program, I allow for the development of the whole child; mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally. I have developed the specific units around a multi-sensory approach, taking into account the unique needs and learning styles of each child.

The curriculum is based on carefully planned activities that call for beginning critical thinking skills, problem solving, cooperating with others and making individual decisions. I have a firm belief that all students are created smart! Given a positive learning environment that allows for multiple ways of learning and meeting the needs of all aspects of the child (spirit, soul and body), students are led down the path of confidence which, in turn, leads to the academic success and growth of each student.

Finally, I facilitate higher-level learning by building on students’ prior knowledge; and utilize varied assessments to ensure that each student is meeting or exceeding the Common Core Standards for Kindergarten. I strive to model a love of learning so that each child will be motivated and inspired to learn, to love, and to grow! I look forward to living this out every day with my students for many years to come!
